Well, yeah! Specifically, for those suffering through infertility. Charting (again, I'm talking about Creighton here) can help you identify the most likely times to conceive, of course, but it's not just that. I wish I could explain all about it but I don't remember exactly how it works and I don't want to mess it up.
I'll say this-it's possible (for a Dr. who is trained in this stuff) to tell by looking at the charts if there is a hormone somewhere that is out of whack at a certain point in the cycle, and then fix that with targeted hormone therapy instead of just applying a broad treatment. It's possible to identify miscarriages, repeated miscarriage, short mucus cycle preventing conception, etc., even BEFORE you try to have a baby. The traditional approach identifies infertility as a year or more without a baby. That's a long time to feel sad without any real information. There's more to it than that. I'm sorry if I screwed even that much up. Don't yell at me.
There are a couple of advantages that stuck out to me. First, the Natural Reproductive (NaPro) approach treats the underlying causes of the infertility, and because you're treating something like a post-ovulatory progesterone deficiency, that's a medical issue. That's covered under insurance. Infertility treatments aren't. So that's something.
Also, the statistics comparing NaPro to InVitro are pretty impressive. It's a lot less expensive, and a lot less invasive.
And if you're not suffering from infertility, first take a big breath and be so thankful. I only know it from the sidelines, but it's heartbreaking. Just take a minute and be glad and thankful. Thanks.
When you want to have another baby, you don't need to wait until the pill wears off or gets out of your system! You don't need to worry about anything getting to that tiny sweet baby that's not in you normally.
I heard last weekend a heartbreaking story of Mamas who decided, years later, that they weren't done after all, that they really wanted more children. Thankfully there is the great gift of adoption, because God makes good out of all things.
And if you're really really lucky, you're in a position to have a really amazing person come into your life. Two of the most important people in the whole world, (truly!) were born to Mamas who were older than 40. Here I am with them!
Can you imagine the world without these two? Just typing that made me cry a little. They're definitely supposed to be here. :)
(And anyway-big families are back in style! According to Forbes... the style gurus at Forbes... :? )
Yay for babies. :)
